About ClearVision

ClearVision is a non-profit organization that has built a team of the world’s leading experts in using entertainment media for positive social change from the international field of entertainment education (EE). Our world-class Advisory Board and team of EE specialists includes the originator of EE, Miguel Sabido; our partner, Population Media Center; key individuals from Soul City in South Africa, the world’s leading ongoing EE TV series; and Hollywood ‘insiders.’

The Need for ClearVision

The U.S. entertainment industry is our most powerful cultural influence, teacher of values, lifestyles, and social norms.  Yet its single bottom line business model and the fragmentation of the media marketplace has resulted in the bulk of entertainment it produces appealing increasingly to people's lower nature as the surest way to attract audiences and make money.  Without a methodology for producing entertainment which incorporates a voluntary moral rudder to ensure that mass media has a positive impact and supports our core values as a society (integral to the EE strategy) business as usual in Hollywood will not change.

ClearVision is working to address this problem by demonstrating in a compelling way that the EE strategy represents a new commercial model which can be profitable and harness the enormous latent power of entertainment media to help lead our society in a positive direction at this pivotal time in our history.

ClearVision's Role

Despite the enormous challenges that America is facing, the EE strategy has never been systematically applied in the U.S. as a comprehensive social change strategy because a Project Champion is needed to launch and coordinate such a campaign.  ClearVision has embraced this pioneering role of U.S. Project Champion.  We are committed to fully applying the EE strategy and bridging the diverse worlds of a broad range of groups and individuals whose cooperation is essential to EE’s effectiveness.

Our History

ClearVision was founded as a non-profit in 1998 by K. Joseph Hartman in order to mainstream the EE strategy in Hollywood. Joseph formed a world-class advisory board including many of the world’s leading EE experts, and gained industry experience by working on Touched by an Angel. After the tragic events at Columbine in 1999, ClearVision partnered with the National Campaign Against Youth Violence (NCAYV), founded by President Clinton, whose board included the presidents of the major media companies. In 2001 we completed an audience research project for NCAYV and were negotiating to coordinate their media strategy and develop an EE TV series/ multimedia campaign, when September 11th abruptly changed the nation’s focus.

After a series of consulting projects, in 2006 ClearVision chose climate change as a leading issue for our prototype EE program because of its urgency and importance.  We were the catalyst for a national survey on global warming conducted in collaboration with the Yale Project on Climate Change and the Gallup Organization in the summer of 2007.7  ClearVision also began collaborating with leading Sabido Methodology practitioners, the Vermont-based PMC, which is providing ongoing technical assistance in applying this strategy.  We received a major seed gift in 2009 and continue the process of establishing partnerships, building our team, and laying the groundwork for conducting the first stages of formative research for this initiative.

ClearVision, founded in 1998, received its 501(c)(3) non-profit status in 1999.
