About ClearVision
ClearVision is a non-profit organization that has built a team of the world’s leading experts in using entertainment media for positive social change from the international field of Entertainment Education (EE). Our world-class Advisory Board and team of EE specialists includes the originator of EE, Miguel Sabido; our partner, Population Media Center; key individuals from Soul City in South Africa, the world’s leading ongoing EE TV series; veterans of Sesame Workshop, which uses EE to educate young children; and Hollywood ‘insiders’.
The Need for ClearVision
The U.S. entertainment industry is the most powerful cultural influence in history. However, the opportunity exists for using this power to address crucial social problems at a much higher level of effectiveness by applying the EE strategy which has been used with great social and commercial success for many years in other countries.
- EE specialists have developed replicable methodologies for harnessing the socially beneficial power of popular entertainment media. However, they work largely in isolation from Hollywood in the academic/non-profit world of international health and development communication.
- Hollywood is gradually coming to use elements of the EE strategy (e.g. integrating health messages and epilogues). Yet, for the U.S. entertainment industry to realize the full social and financial benefits of EE, building a bridge from the world of EE to Hollywood is required.
ClearVision's Strategy
ClearVision forms a bridge between the worlds of EE and Hollywood. Replicating EE requires a Project Champion who is committed to fully applying the EE strategy and can bridge the diverse worlds of a broad range of groups and individuals whose cooperation is essential to EE’s effectiveness. ClearVision is providing this leadership and is synthesizing the best aspects of the world’s leading EE models for use in Hollywood.
ClearVision's History
After Columbine, ClearVision formed a partnership with the President Clinton’s National Campaign Against Youth Violence (NCAYV) and completed an audience research project for them in 2001. We were negotiating for ClearVision to coordinate NCAYV’s media strategy and develop an EE TV series/multimedia campaign, when September 11th changed the nation’s focus dramatically.
ClearVision, founded in 1998, received its 501(c)(3) non-profit status in 1999.
